By 3669 faster than light travel is no longer impossible. However, at such speeds, computation is so incredibly nuanced that the System used in FTL must be disabled when humans want to explore, gather resources, or fight. For this reason, manual spatial navigation is... chaotic.
The crew of the Ephyra, have been pulled out of cryo to deal with an anomaly the System can't. Hurtling through space at 299,792,458 miles per second has dangers all its own, but when the System can't handle it, well, things are already out of control.
